LOS ANGELES (AP) - A Los Angeles County judge was killed after he was struck by a vehicle while crossing a West Los Angeles street.

The Los Angeles Times reports (https://lat.ms/1QIlaty ) that 64-year-old Daniel Brenner was walking across the street Monday when a driver heading north struck him. Brenner was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Los Angeles police Officer Tony Im says the driver remained at the scene and is not under criminal investigation.

Brenner was appointed to the bench in 2012 and was a recognized expert in communications law. He had previously served as an adviser to the chair of the Federal Communications Commission. He was also known to perform stand-up comedy in clubs across the country.
