SPARKS, Nev. (AP) - Police have arrested a man accused of firing a gun inside his Sparks home and holding four people hostage.

Forty-five-year-old Gordan Melliniger is facing charges of child abuse and discharging a firearm in connection with the incident early Tuesday.

Police said in a news release that officers had responded to a report of shots fired inside a home. They arrived to find that two women and two teens were inside the residence.

Police say one of the women was able to escape into the backyard of the home and officers aided her to safety.

Officers began negotiating with Melliniger, who eventually exited the home and was arrested without incident.

The hostages were found safe and no injuries were reported.

The incident remains under investigation.
