FORT EDWARD, N.Y. (AP) - A 32-year-old man has pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of criminally negligent homicide in the drug-overdose death of his girlfriend’s 13-month-old daughter.

The Post-Star of Glens Falls reports ( ) that Joshua J. Bennett of Kingsbury entered the plea Tuesday in Washington County Court in exchange for 6 to 8 years in prison. That’s to run consecutively to the 6 years he’s serving for an earlier drug conviction.

Bennett admitted having cocaine and heroin accessible to children in the home where Kayleigh Cassell died last Feb. 22.

The baby’s mother, 27-year-old Rachel Ball, pleaded guilty to criminally negligent homicide and drug charges in November. She is to receive a minimum of 8 1/3 to 11 years in prison when she’s sentenced on March 4.
