SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - A deployment ceremony has been scheduled for a Sioux Falls-based Army National Guard unit that’s been called to serve in the Middle East.
Thirty-nine soldiers with the Guard’s 196th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade will serve a yearlong tour in Kuwait. A public send-off ceremony is scheduled 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, at the Harrisburg High School auditorium.
The soldiers will conduct protection and security operations in Kuwait. They’ll head to Fort Bliss, Texas, for several weeks of training before heading overseas.
The 196th served in Afghanistan in 2010-11.
