SEARCY, Ark. (AP) - The White County Quorum Court has approved a measure that’ll allow handguns to be carried on county property by approved employees with a concealed carry permit.

White County Judge Michael Lincoln says the ordinance will allow these county employees to submit their names to the White County Court Security Committee, which will review applications and approve or deny the requests.

The Daily Citizen (https://bit.ly/1VnhzVU ) reports that the ordinance was approved Tuesday.

Lincoln says employees will be prohibited from carrying a handgun in a courtroom, unless they have the presiding judge’s permission.

Republican Justice of the Peace Bobby Burns, who sponsored the ordinance, says he’s pleased that it passed and that he believes county offices will be safer because of it.
