PORT HURON, Mich. (AP) - A high school senior has been charged in the death of a popular tow truck driver who was struck while pulling a car from a ditch in St. Clair County.

Hundreds of tow trucks, including some from Indiana and Canada, were part of the funeral procession last month for 28-year-old Jason Schultz.

Prosecutor Mike Wendling says 18-year-old Trent Sheldon is charged with causing death while under the influence of marijuana. Police say Sheldon drove on the shoulder of a road and struck Schultz in Clyde Township on Jan. 15.

Defense attorney Dan Damman (DAME’-in) says the charge was negotiated with the prosecutor and a guilty plea is expected. He says it’s too early to know the sentence.

Damman says Sheldon has a “very heavy heart” over Schultz’ death.
