FORT ANN, N.Y. (AP) - State police say a 92-year-old woman who ran a general store for five decades has died of exposure after she apparently slipped on ice outside her home in Washington County.

The Glens Falls Post Star reports (https://bit.ly/1WuGxCP ) that Eleanor M. Campney was found around 5:45 p.m. Wednesday in a garage across from her home in Fort Ann.

Police believe she had gone outside earlier in the day and slipped on ice, hurting her leg. She crawled to the garage but lapsed into unconsciousness at the bottom of stairs that led to a shop above the garage.

An autopsy performed Thursday at Albany Medical Center determined the cause of death to be hypothermia.

Campney ran the former Chase’s General Store in West Fort Ann until 1983 and also worked as a school nurse.
