NORTON, Mass. (AP) - A Massachusetts worker has been fatally struck by a delivery truck in the parking lot of a furniture company’s warehouse.

The Sun Chronicle (https://bit.ly/1KY3M7H ) reports that 63-year-old Michael Hassett was pronounced dead at the scene Wednesday afternoon in the parking lot of Bernie & Phyl’s in Norton.

Norton police Lt. Todd Jackson says the Foxborough man was picking up a piece of trash in the parking lot when he was struck by the box truck. He says the driver told authorities he didn’t see Hassett.

The company says the victim was a longtime employee and a “treasured member” of its family.

A federal inspector from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration was called to the scene.
