D’IBERVILLE, Miss. (AP) - After more than 20 years of waiting for a casino in the city, D’Iberville got its first payment from casino revenue.

City officials told The Sun Herald (https://bit.ly/1Ts4D34) Tuesday the Scarlet Pearl Casino opened Dec. 9 and its first month’s gross casino revenue was $8.4 million.

The local tax is 3.2 percent, or $270,000.

Sharron Perkins, the city’s comptroller, says 40 percent of that, or $108,000 goes to the city’s general fund. Twenty percent is earmarked for public safety, 20 percent for Harrison County School District and the remainder is split between the school districts in Harrison County.
