WHEATON, Ill. (AP) - A judge has sentenced a former law firm employee in suburban Chicago to eight years in prison for stealing more than $500,000 from the company.

A statement from the DuPage County state’s attorney’s office says 55-year-old Le Anna Kelty, of Wilmington, stole the money over six years by forging her employers’ signatures on unauthorized checks.

State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement that Kelty “caused great hardship to the firm and her fellow co-workers.”

Kelty worked in the Naperville firm’s accounting department. She entered a plea of guilty earlier this year to one count of theft in excess of $500,000.

She will be eligible for parole after serving half her term.
