AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - A judge has raised bail for a Waterville man accused of breaking into a 73-year-old woman’s home and sexually assaulting her at gunpoint.

The Morning Sentinel reports (https://bit.ly/1R9qetP ) 32-year-old Mark Halle is charged with gross sexual assault, burglary and other offenses in connection with the Feb. 7 break-in. A judge on Wednesday ordered him held on $500,000 cash bail. He was previously held on $225,000.

His attorney had asked that bail be lowered because Halle doesn’t have a criminal record.

Prosecutors say Halle broke into the woman’s home by removing her air conditioning unit from a window before sexually assaulting her.

Halle was apprehended following a 20-hour police investigation.

He is due in court on May 3.
