BUTTE, Mont. (AP) - Jury deliberations are underway in the retrial of a Butte man charged with killing his father in December 2008.

The Montana Standard reports (https://bit.ly/1To6N2C ) that the case went to the jury Thursday after closing arguments.

Adam Hatfield testified in his own defense on Wednesday, telling jurors he did not kill his father.

Prosecutors allege the then-18-year-old Hatfield beat his father Matt Hatfield with a baseball bat at the cabin they shared south of Butte and then disposed of his body.

Matt Hatfield’s skull was recovered by a research scientist in October 2010.

Hatfield’s first trial ended in a mistrial in April 2015 after jurors couldn’t reach a unanimous verdict.

Adam Hatfield is now 25. He has been jailed since his March 2014 arrest in South Dakota.
