RUTLAND, Vt. (AP) - A 54-year-old Shrewsbury man has pleaded not guilty to charges he fatally shot his longtime girlfriend in their Rutland County home.

Frank Weir entered the plea on Wednesday to second-degree murder in the death of 57-year-old Donna Marzilli.

Police said they responded to the couple’s Shrewsbury home Monday night for a report of a shooting. The caller said he had been involved in a dispute with his girlfriend and that she had been shot.

When troopers arrived on the scene they found Marzilli dead from an apparent gunshot wound, and took Weir into custody.

Weir is being held without bail at the Marble Valley Regional Corrections facility in Rutland.
