MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - A Millington man has been sentenced to 22 years in prison without the possibility of parole in his disabled daughter’s 2012 death from gangrene and infected bedsores.

The Shelby County district attorney’s office says 44-year-old Errol Johnson was sentenced Thursday by Criminal Court Judge Bobby Carter.

Johnson was convicted in January of criminally negligent homicide and aggravated child neglect in the death of 12-year-old Andrea Ruth.

The girl suffered from asthma, hypertension, and obesity. She was bed ridden and unable to walk. Testimony revealed that she had developed gangrene in her feet so advanced that bones were visible and that first responders saw maggots beneath dirty bandages on her feet.

She lost some 50 pounds between May 2011 and November 2012, when she died.
