BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Officials say the death of a 3-year-old boy who was pulled from a stream near his day care center in Vermont has been ruled accidental.

The state medical examiner’s office says Parker Berry of Hyde Park died as a result of drowning and cold water submersion.

Police said when family arrived at the Elephant in the Field daycare in Waterbury Center to pick up the boy Thursday, staff noticed Parker was missing.

Authorities said staff spotted the boy, pulled him from the Thatcher Brook, and called 911. Parker died Friday at the University of Vermont Medical Center.

The state Department for Children and Families issued a suspension order to the daycare, meaning it can’t operate.

It was unclear Thursday if it had reopened and the owner’s phone message mailbox was full.
