GREENEVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Local and state law enforcement officials are investigating after a body was discovered in the Cherokee National Forest.

Media report the body was found by a Greene County sheriff’s deputy on Wednesday afternoon in a secluded area near the North Carolina border.

Sheriff Pat Hankins says an investigation is ongoing and the body was sent to the William L. Jenkins Forensic Center at East Tennessee State University for an autopsy. He did not release any details about the body.

Tennessee Bureau of Investigation spokesman Josh DeVine says the agency is assisting the sheriff’s department in gathering information.
