FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) - Larimer County District Attorney Cliff Riedel has found a sheriff’s deputy justified in the fatal shooting of a 38-year-old man accused of holding his girlfriend hostage at a mobile home park near Fort Collins.

The Coloradoan reports (https://noconow.co/20ZNtOW ) Riedel issued his opinion Wednesday saying Deputy Chris Melvin shot and killed Phillip Salazar after he lunged at him with a pair of scissors.

Riedel says Salazar repeatedly threatened to harm the woman and deputies who had responded to the scene Jan. 29 on a domestic disturbance call. After an hourslong standoff, Riedel says SWAT team members entered the trailer after Salazar said he was going to blow it up.

Riedel says Salazar was wielding a pair of scissors when he lunged toward Melvin, who then shot Salazar four times.

The woman was hospitalized with serious injuries.
