MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - An Alabama school bus driver is being praised for acting quickly after her bus caught fire with children onboard.

WKRG-TV reports (bit.ly/1KZxrxa) the Mobile County bus driver was on the road Wednesday afternoon when she noticed smoke pouring from the engine.

School officials say the driver pulled over and immediately evacuated all 15 children. The engine caught fire and flames quickly spread throughout the bus from front to back.

Pat Mitchell, transportation director for Mobile County public schools, said the driver - whose name was not released - had just completed the school system’s latest round of emergency drills last week. He said the bus recently passed an inspection.

Fire officials are still trying to determine what caused the engine fire.
