PAWTUCKET, R.I. (AP) - Authorities have identified a Pawtucket woman who police said was apparently stabbed by her husband in a murder-suicide in the couple’s home.

Officers were called to a Pawtucket residence last week for reports of a disturbance and found 50-year-old Maria Cecilia Velasquez Palacio unresponsive with stab wounds.

Her 52-year-old husband, Ariel Alonzo Montoya, was found barely conscious with significant stab wounds and a dog was found stabbed to death. The two were taken to Memorial Hospital where they were pronounced dead.

Police say Palacio filed a harassment complaint against her husband a week before the stabbing. She told them her husband had been verbally abusive toward her.

The Providence Journal reports that the couple were both born in Colombia and moved to Pawtucket last year.
