LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - A woman convicted of shooting her live-in boyfriend in Chaparral has received the maximum prison sentence possible.

The Las Cruces Sun-News reports (https://bit.ly/1XC1IEn) that a judge sentenced 39-year-old Margarita Flores to nine years for attempted murder.

Flores pleaded guilty last year.

Authorities say Flores, who was intoxicated, shot her boyfriend five times at a home in March 2014 during an argument.

The victim was comatose for three months and hospitalized for a year.

He has not regained use of his left hand.

Dona Ana County District Attorney Mark D’Antonio says he is glad she got the maximum sentence but he will continue to lobby for tougher penalties for those convicted of attempted murder.
