GERING, Neb. (AP) - A 24-year-old Scottsbluff man accused of injuring his 6-month-old daughter has been convicted of child abuse.

Online court records say Michael Medbery pleaded no contest Thursday in Scotts Bluff County District Court to a charge of negligent child abuse causing injury. In exchange for Medbery’s plea, prosecutors lowered the charge from intentional child abuse. His sentencing is scheduled for April 5.

Medbery was arrested in October after officers investigated a hospital report of head injuries to the girl. Court documents say Medbery told officers that he shook the baby because she was crying and then dropped her onto a floor trying to comfort her.
