SOUTHBURY, Conn. (AP) - Authorities have released the cause of death of a Connecticut father whose son was considered a suspect in his killing and died hours after him.

Police responded to the Southbury home Tuesday night and found 74-year-old Dennis Fitzsimmons unresponsive on the floor. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner said Thursday Fitzsimmons died of strangulation and blunt injuries to the head and torso. Officials ruled the death a homicide.

Officials say the cause of death of 43-year-old Timothy Fitzsimmons has yet to be determined.

Police said Fitzsimmons became ill as he spoke with officers and passed out. He died at a hospital. Detectives working on the case determined that he was a suspect in his father’s death.

The incident remains under investigation.
