EAST HAMPTON, N.Y. (AP) - Police say a Long Island man is dead after he was hit by a forklift.

Newsday reports (https://nwsdy.li/1KYXQey ) that police say Hector Duarte-Roque was hit Thursday morning in the Suffolk County town of East Hampton.

The 44-year-old Southampton man, who was a forklift operator, had been guiding another operator hauling dock construction material.

Police say Duarte-Roque was airlifted to Southampton Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The forklift has been impounded for a safety check.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident.
