SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - About 100 full-time jobs could be coming to South Charleston through a recently announced multimillion-dollar hospital expansion that is expected to bring the latest in post-acute medical care to the city.

Thomas Health System on Thursday announced plans to partner with Stonerise Healthcare to build a new $17 million dollar facility that would focus on services such as physical rehab and long-term care, on the campus of Thomas Memorial Hospital.

News outlets report that South Charleston Mayor Frank Mullens told the City Council he is excited for the planned 71,000-square-foot facility, which will be the first of its kind in the state.

Mullens says construction is tentatively scheduled to begin this summer. The hospital is still awaiting approval from the West Virginia Healthcare Authority.
