SOMERVILLE, Mass. (AP) - Wynn Resorts says Somerville’s latest challenge to its Everett casino will cost Massachusetts $55 million every month the project is delayed.

The Las Vegas casino company says that figure, which works out to about $660 million annually, factors in direct spending and payroll costs from Wynn, as well as taxes and fees.

But Somerville Mayor Joseph Curtatone suggests Wynn didn’t properly plan for all possibilities in the complex approval process, including appeals. He says the Boston suburb is seeking to address “real and serious health and quality of life issues.”

Somerville filed an administrative appeal with the state last week challenging its decision to grant the $1.7 billion project a key environmental permit. The appeal represents Somerville’s fifth legal action against the casino, which Wynn hopes to open by 2018.
