GRAFTON, W.Va. (AP) - A Bridgeport man has been charged in his infant child’s death.

Local media outlets report West Virginia State Police say 26-year-old Jeremy Shaffer was arrested Sunday. He faces several charges, including second-degree murder in 16-week-old Landyn Shaffer’s death.

Police Cpl. Jeremy Daugherty says Shaffer is accused of placing the child face down on a couch and pushing him in a shaking/bouncing motion Sept. 10. Shaffer told police that the child was crying for over 10 minutes and wouldn’t stop.

Police say Shaffer said he walked away and noticed the infant turned blue and wasn’t breathing. The child died the next day at a hospital.

The medical examiner ruled the infant’s cause of death a homicide as the result of cerebrospinal trauma.

The Exponent Telegram reports Shaffer’s attorney is Joe Shaffer.
