SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) - Dr. G.E. Ghali has been named interim chancellor of LSU Health Shreveport, while Victor Yick will has been appointed as a strategic financial adviser for the medical school and its affiliates.

The Times reports (https://bit.ly/1QX6QSB) Ghali and Yick will face serious challenges in their new roles, including the potential for devastating state budget cuts and a tumultuous relationship with Biomedical Research Foundation, the private partner who operates the state’s safety net hospitals in Shreveport and Monroe.

LSU President F. King Alexander officially announced the appointments Monday.

Alexander said the dual positions are necessary to produce the best combination of medical and financial talents to manage the possible state budget cuts, which could ultimately lead to the medical school’s and hospitals’ closures.
