GREAT FALLS, Mont. (AP) - A family walking along the banks of the Smith River in Cascade County found a human skull about 19 miles south of Ulm.

Sheriff Bob Edwards says the condition of the skull and its remaining teeth gave officials reason to believe it was old. No trauma was visible. Edwards says a search of the area where the skull was located Monday evening turned up other skeletal remains.

Edwards says it’s possible the Smith River exposed an old grave.

The case is still being investigated.
