DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Two senior citizens have escaped a burning home in Des Moines unhurt.

The Des Moines Register reports (https://dmreg.co/1QQHiSO ) that the fire started Friday morning.

Fire Inspector Tedd Jefferson says the fire appeared to have started in the basement of the two-story home in the 3700 block of Hubbell Avenue.

Jefferson says firefighters were called around 8:10 a.m. Friday. He says smoke permeated the home, but the fire appeared to be contained in the basement.

Jefferson says the home’s two elderly occupants were already standing outside the home when firefighters arrived.

Investigators are trying to determine how the fire started.
