NORTHBROOK, Ill. (AP) - Authorities say a suburban Chicago man has been charged in connection with a string of burglaries of area hair and nail salons.

Northbrook Police Cmdr. Mike O’Malley says 26-year-old Alan Konwinski of Highland Park is charged with five counts of burglary, all for alleged Northbrook burglaries. It wasn’t immediately known if Konwinski has legal representation.

Earlier this week, authorities said 70 burglaries of hair and nail salons have occurred in and around Chicago since August. Police said all of the crimes appeared to be the work of the same two people. Police say the pair would smash front doors, then enter and rifle through cash registers.

Authorities said a tip relayed to Northbrook from the DuPage County Sheriff’s Department led them to Konwinski. They say he was arrested wearing the same sweat shirt as a figure captured by a burglarized salon’s security camera.
