SOUTH JORDAN, Utah (AP) - Authorities say a man is dead and six others are in the hospital after a head-on collision in South Jordan.

Police say the incident occurred near 9800 South and 3700 West on Friday night.

According to Lt. Matt Pennington, a Toyota 4Runner drifted into westbound traffic lanes for an unknown reason.

The 4Runner collided with a Ford Thunderbird.

Pennington says the 56-year-old man driving the Thunderbird was rushed to the hospital, where he died from his injuries.

The man’s wife was hospitalized for minor injuries.

The 17-year-old girl driving the 4Runner and four juveniles also in the car were treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Pennington says alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors.

Speed has not been ruled out.

The accident remains under investigation.
