SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A convicted sex offender has been sentenced for stealing a school bus last year and trying to pick up children in Emery County.

A judge this week sentenced Patrick James Fredericksen to one to 15 years in Utah State Prison.

Fredericksen pleaded no contest earlier this week to four felony counts including attempted child kidnapping and theft.

He also faced a misdemeanor count of driving with a controlled substance for a series of crimes.

Under the plea agreement, he will serve concurrent sentences.

The Emery County Sheriff’s Office says Fredericksen, who was paroled in 2013, was stopped last March while driving a school bus.

Deputies say the bus had names and directions for students and Fredericksen allegedly tried to pick up one child from her home.
