NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say a 67-year-old man who was beaten during a violent carjacking in New Jersey’s largest city has been released from a hospital.

Newark police say the victim was sitting in his car when he was approached by another man on Saturday night.

Authorities say the man initially tried to strike up a conversation with the victim. But three other men soon appeared and assaulted the victim and pulled him out of the car before they drove off.

The man was treated for undisclosed injuries and was released from the hospital on Sunday. His name has not been released.

The four assailants remained at large on Sunday.
