MUSKEGON, Mich. (AP) - A Michigan man already in prison for the fatal hacking and bludgeoning of his 71-year-old grandfather was sentenced to up to 10 years for squirting a liquid in a county jail deputy’s eyes.

The Muskegon Chronicle reports (https://bit.ly/1OrinDB ) that 26-year-old Trent Humphreys-McPherson was back in court Monday on the assault of a jail or prison employee charge.

He pleaded guilty to the charge last month, but said the liquid was water. The incident happened in August.

The sentence won’t affect the length of his current prison term.

Humphreys-McPherson was earlier sentenced to mandatory life in prison without parole after being convicted of first-degree murder in the January 2015 hatchet attack on Dennis McPherson in Muskegon Township.
