FREEHOLD, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say a 20-year-old man has been charged with shooting at a New Jersey police officer last year.

Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher Gramiccioni said Monday that Dante Allen was charged with first-degree attempted murder, weapons and drug possession in the November shooting in Asbury Park.

Allen is being held in jail on $1.3 million bail. His public defender declined comment on his behalf.

Prosecutors say Allen fired at the officer as he ran from him, and the officer then shot Allen in the leg.

Authorities say tests were inconclusive, but they believe the bullet from the officer’s gun then grazed an 8-year-old girl in a nearby home. She was treated at a hospital.
