DENVER (AP) - A man who was shot and killed by Denver police after wounding an officer has been identified as 33-year-old Gerardino Cayetano Gonzalez.

The Denver Medical Examiner’s Office released the identity Tuesday.

Police say Gonzalez shot officer Rachel Eid in the leg on Monday when Eid and another officer were chasing him on foot after an attempted burglary.

Eid was treated at a hospital and released.

Police say Gonzalez fled in a carjacked a vehicle but stopped about three blocks away after losing control. Authorities say other officers confronted him and he was killed in a gunfight.

KMGH-TV reports (https://tinyurl.com/zk4zcqj) state records show Gonzalez had previous arrests on charges of arrests for assault, aggravated robbery, resisting arrest, criminal impersonation, theft and forgery.
