SUPERIOR, Ariz. (AP) - Twice-weekly closures of an eight-mile segment of U.S. 60 near Superior are planned from early March into late April as part of a construction project.

The Arizona Department of Transportation says motorists should plan for closures from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning next week.

The closures are due to blasting work needed to build a passing lane and to widen roadway shoulders east of Superior.

Traffic on eastbound US 60 will be stopped east of Superior and traffic on westbound US 60 will be stopped west of Miami until the blasting work is completed and debris is cleared.

Alternate routes include State Routes 77 and 177 through Winkelman and State Routes 87 and 260 through Payson.

The $8.8 million project began last August.
