BAY ST. LOUIS, Miss. (AP) - Authorities have ruled that an Iraq War veteran accidentally drowned in Hancock County two months ago.

County Coroner Jim Faulk told The Sun Herald (https://bit.ly/1S8vAbh ) on Saturday that an autopsy confirmed 27-year-old Alex Toups accidentally drowned in a small body of water in the Lakeshore community.

Teenagers shooting guns in the area found Toups’ body in the water on Dec. 27. A friend who had been with Toups the previous night thought he had gone home.

Toups, a 2005 graduate of Hancock High School in 2005, enlisted in the U.S. Army after high school and had been stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C., with the 82nd Airborne Infantry.
