FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) - Washington County officials have agreed to settle a civil lawsuit against a former deputy for about a third of what was owed.

The Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reports (bit.ly/1Te1ZP4) the settlement was agreed to last week between the county and Steven W. Hulsey.

Hulsey pleaded guilty to insurance fraud, was fined $500 and sentenced to five years of probation last year. Investigators had alleged he listed his wife on an insurance form in 2014 even though the two had divorced 10 years earlier.

Hulsey resigned last April when the sheriff’s office began an internal investigation.

Records show that Hulsey and the county agreed Feb. 16 that he would pay $3,926 at no interest in 78 monthly installments of $50 per month.
