ONTARIO, Ore. (AP) - Oregon State Police are investigating after an inmate died unexpectedly at the Snake River Correctional Institution in Ontario.

Authorities say the inmate, 42-year-old Sou Seng Saepharn, reported he wasn’t feeling well and was being checked by medical staff at about 2:30 a.m. Saturday. As he was being prepared for transport to a hospital his condition worsened.

Medics tried CPR without success.

Saepharn was sentenced in Multnomah County for sex abuse and witness tampering charges. He had been in Department of Corrections custody since 2009 and was not due to be released until 2026 at the earliest.
