PARAMUS, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say a police pursuit in northern New Jersey ended when a New York City man crashed his rental car into a home.

The incident started around 4:30 a.m. Saturday in Saddle Brook, when an officer stopped Marlon Vancooten after he allegedly drove through a red light. Authorities say the 25-year-old Brooklyn man then sped away as the officer approached the car.

The chase then went through Rochelle Park and into Paramus, where Vancooten crashed into the home. He allegedly tried to flee on foot, but was soon caught by police.

Vancooten was charged with eluding. A woman with him in the car was not charged, but authorities say the investigation is ongoing.

No injuries were reported. The car caught fire, but it was quickly extinguished.

It wasn’t known Saturday if Vancooten has retained an attorney.
