SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - A man shot a woman before turning the gun on himself outside an apartment in Sioux Falls, leaving both with life-threatening injuries, according to police.

The suspect, 53-year-old Cameron Demetirus Young, and the 30-year-old woman remained hospitalized Saturday, a day after the shooting, according to police Lt. David McIntire. Police said the pair had previously been in a relationship.

“Hopefully we can piece together the totality of the circumstances that happened here,” Sgt. Sean Kooistra told the Argus Leader (https://argusne.ws/1TJO7eW ), adding that police weren’t looking for additional suspects in the ongoing investigation.

Young and the woman are from Sioux Falls. Police said the woman’s name was not being released pending an investigation and notification of relatives.

Police were looking for people who may have heard the gunshots or seen anything related to the incident.

“We need the public’s help in trying to discover that,” Kooistra said. “We are talking to the neighbors to see if we can get any witnesses, the timeframe or sounds or if they saw anything suspicious - any additional vehicles. Right now, we don’t have any reason to believe anyone is in danger.”
