MONACO (AP) - Former Olympic high jumper Rozle Prezelj has been elected new chairman of the IAAF’s athletes commission, replacing former sprinter Frank Fredericks with immediate effect.

The 36-year-old Slovenian represented his country at three Olympic Games and four world championships before retiring two years ago.

Britain’s marathon world record-holder Paula Radcliffe was nominated commission vice chairwoman, the track and field’s governing body also said in a statement Saturday.

Prezelj said: “I’m most gratified by this show of confidence from my fellow commission members for entrusting me with this big responsibility in these challenging times.”

Fredericks, from Namibia, said: “It’s been a pleasure to lead the commission working with my fellow members to help promote the needs of the world’s clean athletes, which must be the IAAF’s primary responsibility.”
