DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - An Urbandale criminal defense lawyer who punched a woman in the face while drunk has had his law license suspended for three months.

The Des Moines Register reports (https://dmreg.co/1WQHnu0 ) that the Iowa Supreme Court imposed the suspension Friday against 33-year-old Jamie Deremiah. He had pleaded guilty to domestic abuse and trespassing charges after breaking into the woman’s home and attacking her in July 2014.

Deremiah’s attorney had argued for a public reprimand that would have allowed him to continue practicing law. But Deremiah told the newspaper that he would have willingly taken a longer suspension if it had served as a warning to others suffering from drug and alcohol addiction.
