AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) - A Georgia judge has sentenced a woman to four years in prison for blackening her 6-year-old daughter’s eye about six months after she left the girl with bruises on her face and arms.

The Augusta Chronicle reports (https://bit.ly/1KSJqNg ) that Michelle N. Johnson pleaded guilty Friday to cruelty to children for the 2014 incident in which she beat her daughter with a belt. The 29-year-old Johnson was also given six years of probation.

District Attorney Ashley Wright says the Department of Family and Children Services had an open case on that incident when a second call was received in February 2015 about a black eye.

Johnson is expected to undergo mental health treatment and is not allowed to have unsupervised contact with children under 16 while on probation.
