OPELIKA, Ala. (AP) - Authorities are investigating after a man was shot and killed in Opelika.

In a statement, Opelika police tell media outlets that officers responded to a call around 9 p.m. Saturday for a report of shots being fired at a home.

Police say arriving officers found 22-year-old Jacob Austin Smith of Auburn shot and lying outside of the home.

Police say Smith was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Lee County Coroner Bill Harris says Smith apparently had multiple gunshot wounds.

The shooting remains under investigation.
