ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - A man is dead after he was caught in an avalanche in southern Alaska near Nelchina Glacier.

Alaska State Troopers responded to a report of two snowmachiners who were unaccounted for following an avalanche.

A helicopter recovered the body of a deceased male and departed the area quickly due to hazardous conditions. He has not been identified pending notification of his next of kin.

His body was taken to the State Medical Examiner in Anchorage.

The other snowmachiner was found and declined medical treatment.
