MANDAN, N.D. (AP) - A Mandan High School senior played clarinet earlier this month in New York’s renowned Carnegie Hall.

The Bismarck Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/1oFtsfH ) that Sara Zachmeier is one of 110 Honors Band members to perform four songs as part of the High School Honors Performance Series at the Manhattan hall on Feb. 7.

Zachmeier says she was speechless when she first stepped on the stage for a sound check.

She says someone heard her perform at last spring’s North Dakota All-State Music Festival and nominated her. She says she’s not sure who that was.

Zachmeier and 18,000 other students received nomination letters, so she recorded herself playing two pieces. The performance series chose 750 students to perform in its band, string orchestra, symphony orchestra, concert choir and women’s choir.
