BETHESDA, Md. (AP) - Three family members have died following a vehicle collision near a Bethesda high school.

Walt Whitman High School principal Alan Goodwin tells media outlets that 52-year-old Michael Buarque De Macedo, 53-year-old Alessandra Buarque De Macedo and their son, 18-year-old Thomas, were headed to a school play Saturday evening when they collided with another car at an intersection.

The three were killed. A teenage daughter, Helena, has been hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the other car, 20-year-old Ogulcan Atakoglu, has been hospitalized and is expected to survive.

Atakoglu’s attorney, David Felsen, says Atakoglu was traveling within the speed limit and did nothing wrong.

Police are investigating the crash. Montgomery police Capt. Paul Starks says investigators have not found evidence that either driver had been drinking.
