FOREST ACRES, S.C. (AP) - Officials are going to name one of the main intersections in Forest Acres to honor a city police officer killed last year in the line of duty.

The resolution passed by South Carolina lawmakers will name the intersection at Forest Drive and Beltline Boulevard the “Officer Gregory Thomas Alia Boulevard.”

Alia’s wife Kassy told The State newspaper (https://bit.ly/1Uu7lEL ) it is a fitting honor for her husband because it is where he grew up, lived worked and was happy.

The 32-year-old officer was shot and killed Sept. 30 as he helped investigate a suspicious person in a nearby mall before it opened.
